Established by the British in 1880s, it is a tea, rubber, coffee and spices plantation.Fascinated by its natural beauty the British named it after a place in Scotland. A trekker’s paradiseit is also a great weekend hideout. The bungalows built by the British add charm to this high range holiday destination.
There are close to 50 waterfalls located in these 900 acres, including the Braemore upper water, Anatheri falls and rock garden falls. These waterfall points are great resting spots for trekkers. The famous hill station at Thiruvananthapuram, Ponmudi is only one-and-a-half hour trekking distance from here. This trail is enchanting as it is through forest and grasslands. The more exciting trekking path is the four-hour trekking route to Sarma peak or Varayadu kunnu where you can spot the Nilgiri Tahrs. Take a local guide while in Braemore otherwise it will be very difficult for trekking as you wont be able to find any star accomodation. The cottages available there are meant for hardcore trekkers and not for a family leisure trip.
Visitors should make time for the 300-year-old Sree Sastha Temple. This temple, known for its exquisite architecture, is close to the Braemore forest
If you are visiting Braemore Estate, then hire a local guide and spend the night in a tree top hut or in the Ramayana Cave. Ramayana Cave is located on top of a hill; the trek to the cave is an exhilarating one. The sunset and the views of misty mountains from the top is an amazing experience.

Ayyampara Hills, Erattupetta, Kerala.

Ayyampara Hills, Erattupetta, Kerala.
Sunsets and the scenic view from top of the Ayyampara Hills are spellbinding.

Erattupetta is a Municipality town in Kottayam district in the state of Kerala, India. … It is 38 km east of Kottayam, the district Centre. Erattupetta was known as Erappili and Erappuzha before.
If visitors choose to be here during the evening and night then they will be treated to a rare view of the beam from the lighthouse of far off Alappuzha harbor.
On the way to or from Ayyampara Hill, you can also visit the holy place of Bharananganam where the tomb of Saint Alphonsa is located.
Now that you want to be there, here are few tips:
  • There are a few KSRTC buses passing through Ayyampara, starting from Erattupetta depot.
  • If you’re driving, keep yourselves ready to face one of the above-mentioned buses coming downhill. The road isn’t wide enough for a normal/smooth pass-by.
  • When traveling from Kottayam, it’s suggested to use Pala as a halt/stop over if needed. Top up fuel if needed.
For food — Pala Food Court at Santhome Shopping Complex, opposite Kottaramattam private bus terminal and Indian Coffee House near the Thodupuzha-Erattupetta diversion point (near KSRTC bus depot) are recommended.
  • If you stay late into the evening, you could see mild-but-vast glow up to the skies from the towns watchable from there — Erattupetta, Pala, Ettumanoor.
  • The place is kept 100% litter-free and keep it up.
